Artist's Description

This is an allegorical painting about Lynn Margulis and her theory of endosymbiosis. Red spirochetes are attaching themselves to various single-celled organisms, propelling them through a viscous pale blue and green medium. Holding a spirochete in each hand, she reminds us of the ancient Cretan Snake Goddess who held a serpent, a symbol of life, in each of her hands as well.
